Lutheran South Instrumental Music

Students at Lutheran South Academy are introduced to instrumental music beginning in 4th grade through the use of recorders.  Students are then introduced to Concert Band instruments at the end of their 4th grade year and start formal instruction at the beginning of 5th grade.  This instruction focuses on all aspects of proper instrumental performance including, but not limited to basic theory, proper posture and breathing, instrument specific performance techniques, intonation, rhythmic accuracy, and instrument care.  Formal bands are then formed in 6th grade (Beginning Band), 7/8th grade (Concert Band), and high school (Symphonic Band) to further the development of the instrumentalists' abilities and provide them with the experience of playing within an ensemble.

Class Meetings:

4th Grade students:  Two times per week for 30 minutes each session.

5th Grade students:  Two times per week for 40 minutes each session.

6-8th Grade students:  Two to three times per week for 43 minutes each session.

High School students:  Daily for 50 minutes each session.
