Flight Academy

LSA’s Flight Academy is designed for students interested in becoming aviators, both professionally and recreationally. Currently, there is a tremendous shortage of pilots around the world in every sector of the profession. Interestingly, pilots also report great satisfaction with their careers, with many declaring a high standard of living. However, becoming a professional pilot takes time and resources, and LSA’s Flight Academy reducse those barriers.

The Flight Academy’s courses serve as electives that are part of LSA’s tuition and occur within the normal school schedule. Certified school-owned flight simulators help reduce the number of hours required to fly, decreasing the cost of flight time for families. LSA has partnered with Coastal Skies Aero Club to offer ground training that teaches our students the knowledge and skills needed to pass the written tests towards earning a Private Pilot’s License, further ratings and certificates (like the instrumental rating and commercial certificate), depending on the number of courses and commitment of the students. The flight hours required to complete these steps occur outside of school at a flight school of each family’s choosing and expense.

To earn LSA’s Flight endorsement, students must complete at least two Flight courses, earn their Private Pilot’s License, and participate in associated activities and service with other Flight Academy students. Those students that complete the Flight Academy gain recognition on their transcript and at graduation. Any licenses, ratings, and certificates earned help reduce the time needed for collegiate or military flight programs, further saving valuable time and resources.

GETTING YOUR PILOT'S LICENSE

To actually become a certified private pilot, students need 40-50 hours of flight time under the guidance of a Certified Flight Instructor outside of the courses taught at Lutheran South. Flight time routinely costs at least $170 per hour and is not a part of Lutheran South's tuition nor is it organized by the school. This flight time is not a requirement for your classes. If a family decides they want their student to pursue flight training, they will contract that time with the flight school of their choosing.
