Illnesses

Keeping our children healthy in a school setting is definitely a challenging task. Please be considerate of other student’s attending LSA when you consider sending an ill student to school. Below are guidelines to use to minimize the spread of illnesses. A child cannot be at school with any of the following:

  • Fever of 100.4 degrees or higher. Students must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of a fever reducer before returning to school.
  • Vomiting or Diarrhea- Must be free of symptoms for 24 hours before returning to school
  • Any communicable disease
  • Contagious rashes or weeping sores

If a child is sent to school before the 24 hour time period the school has the right to contact the parent to come get the child. Children with an illness or disease should be kept at home until the doctor releases them to return to school.

Head Lice

A child is excluded from school until treated with an appropriate medicated shampoo. Upon returning to school, they must come to the clinic for a head check. It is important to develop a routine at home to check your child for lice.

Medications

Please give all medications at home when possible. When given at school, all medications must be in the original labeled container or box. Medications given for 15 days and under may have a signed form from parents giving permission for school to administer. Long term medications must have a physician’s authorization form completed. Both of these forms may be obtained at the forms link on this page.

Health Screenings

Vision, Hearing, Spinal, and Acanthosis screenings are performed in the fall for the state mandated grade levels and all new students. You will be notified if your child needs any further evaluation.

Immunizations

Students attending school are required to meet the Texas Minimum State Vaccine requirements. You will be notified if your child needs any immunizations throughout the school year. Please make this a top priority if your child needs an immunization and return proof of immunization to school.

Emergency Contact Information

Please check your child’s RenWeb account and make sure all emergency contact information is up to date in case of an emergency.
